Gut Sponge is a palatable, peppermint flavoured, nutritional supplement formulated to support hind gut health and encourage the formation of normal droppings.
Gut Sponge contains psyllium husks, a prebiotic and valuable energy source for the horse due to its fermentation by the microbiota. This provides safe calories, promotes the growth of friendly bacteria and nourishes the gut lining cells.
The high fibre psyllium husks absorb water in the gut, coating and protecting the gut lining and helping the production of normal droppings. This is enhanced by the high level of Bentonite - a natural binding agent - and source of essential minerals.
Linseed is a nutritious source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, which supports gut health and general well-being.
Gut Sponge can be used in conjunction with Gut Balancer for probiotic support

Can Gut Sponge be used alongside Gut Balancer?
Yes. Both Gut Sponge and Gut Balancer support hind gut health, but by different mechanisms. The addition of Gut Balancer provides probiotic and additional prebiotic support. They can be fed together, but when you're feeding Gut Sponge once daily it's best to feed Gut Balancer at the opposite end of the day.
Can Gut Sponge be used with Gut Bind?
Whilst it would be safe to feed both products together, Gut Sponge and Gut Bind support gut health in a similar way. It would be better to feed Gut Balancer alongside Gut Sponge to provide additional probiotic and prebiotic support.
Can Gut Sponge be used alongside other Protexin products?
Yes. It is safe to feed Gut Sponge alongside all other Protexin products. For more information on Gut Balancer and Gut Bind see above; for other products, or to ask a specific question about your horse please get in touch with our technical team.
What is a macrolide?
Macrolides are a class of antibiotics, including erythromycin, clarithromycin and others. Smectite clays are known to bind macrolides and stop them from working. It is therefore not recommended to use Gut Sponge alongside oral macrolides. However, macrolides are very rarely used in horses - except when treating Rhodococcus equi infection in foals. If you have any doubts, please speak to your vet.

Does the trick!
My big cob was struggling a bit with the amount of rich grass we had this year with all the rain and warm weather well into june giving him poops like cow pats. A couple of days on this sorted him out no problem. Great stuff!

Excellent Product
I've been giving Protexin Gut Sponge to my elderly pony after he suffered C-Diff following a course of antibiotics. I found the Gut Sponge to be an excellent product - palatable making it easy to give mixed in a mushy feed. Highly recommend this product.

Brilliant supplement
Together with the gut balancer this product has changed my mareās digestion, with faecal water running down her back legs, into solid droppings and a much more pleasant odour.Ā My mare seems much happier too. Thank you.

Brilliant for a horse that struggles with seasonal changes
I started using gut sponge after many years of struggling with ālooseā poo during times of change in my horses diet, specifically going onto spring grass and then back onto more roughage based diet in the autumn. I love that I can feed this as and when his stomach needs a bit of support.

Gut Sponge
So impressed by this product! My horse is very sensitive to seasonal changes and any slight change in grass/forage etc, so this product has really helped firm his droppings up as nothing else was working! I noticed a difference after the first day of using it! It seems very palatable too as he hasnt even noticed it is in his feed. Will definitely use again in the future around the time of seasonal changes/when needed. Would 100% recommend.
