Profile

British born Gareth Hughes spent much of his childhood competing in a variety of equine sports including Dressage, Showing, in hand and Western riding whilst living in Australia. He returned to England, aged 23, and worked initially at Broadstone Stud, Paradise Farm in Oxfordshire.

After six months Gareth moved to the North West of England where he began freelancing and in 1999 he was offered a horse to ride and introduced himself to Stephen Clarke. Stephen has been one of Gareth’s main influences throughout his career.

In 2001 he first set up his own yard in Cheshire and in 2011 Gareth, with his wife Rebecca, moved onto their own premises in Warwickshire and Hughes Dressage was born.

Over the past 10 years Gareth has amassed more than 30 National and International Titles including International wins at Small Tour and Grand Prix, both in the UK and abroad.

The greatest accolade was to come when in 2013, Gareth was part of the Bronze Medal winning team at the FEI European Dressage Championships in Herning, capping off an already phenomenal year, where he was already the winner of two nation cup team competitions.

He then represented Great Britain at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in 2014 putting in a great performance to help secure the team a Silver Medal. In 2017, Gareth with Anne and Steve Keen’s Don Carissimo was selected for the 2017 European Dressage Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 22 - 26 August 2017.

Gareth is also the technical advisor to the Swiss Dressage team and also trains the Australian eventing team and has been since 2012.
